Meta Accused of Double Standard Following Tommy Lee’s Nude Posts On Facebook & Instagram

“Ooooopppsss.” That’s a full-frontal nude shot, but I promise it isn’t mine. Tommy Lee posted the said nude on his Instagram page and copied the same to his Facebook page on Thursday, provoking massive reactions from social media users.

Tommy Lee is cisgender, which means he still bears the gender assigned at birth. His posting of the nude photograph, and its staying on both Instagram and Facebook, both owned by Meta, for hours, provoked anger in some quarters.

Critics are angry with Meta and accusing the company of double standards in the treatment of content that supposedly goes against community guidelines.

According to these critics, if similar content had been shared by women, transgender and nonbinary users, it would have been taken down quicker by Meta, and the offending users would have been sanctioned severely. But it didn’t happen in the case of the celebrated rock musician.

Last we checked, though, neither Instagram nor Facebook has responded to the storm of claims that it has double standards in the treatment of nudity on the platforms, despite its guidelines reading in part that “photos, videos, and some digitally-created content that show sexual intercourse, genitals, and close-ups of fully-nude buttocks” are not allowed.
