Of Wheelbarrows & Pushers: Bheki Cele’s Analogy After Drunken Driver Slaps Cop

A cop harassing a man is nothing novel, especially in Africa. But what about a man harassing a cop? That’s the real novelty in the sense that it is rare – cops are usually armed and many people dare not mess up with them.

Well, a little drama played out recently, with a drunken motorist harassing a member of the SAPS (South African Police Services). The incident was captured in video and went viral when it popped up on social media.

The incident happened after a member of the SAPS reprimanded a driver for drinking in public. You can check out the clip below.

One person who was clearly unimpressed with the incident was the South African police affairs minister Bheki Cele. Reacting to the incident, the police ministry boss made an analogy between a wheelbarrow and its pusher – only, in this case, he is adamant cops are not wheelbarrows to be pushed around.

Anyway, the man who pushed the police officer has been arrested and will appear in court.

SAPS members are not wheelbarrows to be pushed around, according to Cele. But are members of the public listening? The coming days would probably have an answer to that. For now, the minister has registered his displeasure.
