The Radical Economic Transformation Movement: Niehaus On Big Donor Funding

The fear of capture is something that has continued to plague organizations and corporations, which is why many try as much as possible to evade anything that will expose them to capture. South African politician Carl Niehaus is well aware of this.

Niehaus recently founded an organization dubbed The Radical Economic Transformation Movement, and he’s keen to avoid anything that will see the organization in the pockets of big donors.

While he isn’t averse to funding, he provided some context when he noted that the organization, which was registered as a non-profit, does not want funding from any one or a few big companies, “which in the South African context will inevitably turn out to be white monopoly capitalist companies.”

Niehaus, a staunch Jacob Zuma loyalist, was recently expelled from the ruling African National Congress (ANC). The founding of The Radical Economic Transformation Movement is seen as an attempt to get back into the political arena.

At the moment however, there has been no indication from Niehaus’s end that the organization will transmute into a political party and contest the provincial and national government elections which are due in 2024.

Well, if it should formally become a political party, it will be interesting to see how well it will do at the polls.
