Veteran Musician Pat Shange Dead of Coronavirus

In South Africa, the massacre continues. The coronavirus has taken yet another life, that of the legendary singer Pat Shange. He died on Tuesday 13 July. He was aged 65.

According to the late musician’s wife Pat, her husband died at Chris Hani Baragwaneth Hospital in Soweto, of the coronavirus, where he had been moved from Chiawelo Clinic.

Recalling her time with her husband, Patricia had noted that he recently released an album but it didn’t do well. She also noted that it was very frustrating to him that he was unable to work.

Following the report of Pat Shange’s death, condolences have been pouring in from around South Africa.  The South Africa Music Awards sent its “deepest condolences” while wishing the soul of the deceased rests in peace.

For his part, Nqaba Matshazi described the late Shange as very much part of his childhood. He recalled that during his uncle’s wedding, Pat Shange’s music was on repeat.

With Pat Shange’s death, the list of South African musicians who have died of COVID-19 related compilations swells. Previously, the industry had lost Jonas Gwangwa and, just recently, Tsepo Tshola.
