Everyone knows how much Mzansi loves good music, and we can’t deny that we have some of the most talented artists in all of Africa. The year has been a really amazing one for the music industry with some of the country’s best acts dropping really incredible music back to back.
If you have paid any attention to the airwaves this year, then you know it hasn’t been favourable to just one music genre like in the past. It would seem that some of the genres which were almost drowned out by Amapiano made a massive comeback this year. The songs that have taken over the charts haven’t only been from the Amapiano genre which has been really great to see.
From January till now, Mzansi artists and disc jockeys have dropped some of the biggest tunes to ever hit the airwaves. From Afro House to SA Hip-hop, Maskandi, R&B and lots more, the airwaves have been belessed with songs that have practically defined the year in Music. We continue to be in awe of most of them. From the radio to the charts, various songs have taken over the scene and artists have done well to deliver them.
Big names like Prince Kaybee, Kabza De Small, DJ Maphorisa, Black Motion, Ami Faku, Stogie T, Cassper Nyovest, AKA, Berita, Blaq Diamond, etc. have each delivered some of the biggest hits to the airwaves this year. Some of the songs have proven strong enough to stay on the airwaves for a really long while. Just like the collaborations between Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa, and also between, Black Motion, Prince Kaybee, and Ami Faku, some songs have proven to be specially made for the airwaves.
Since they were released till now, they have been so resilient that they continue to be the most played songs in all of South Africa. However, new songs from the likes of SA Hip-hop star, Nasty C have also made a mark on the airwaves with only a few weeks of release. Even Cassper Nyovest who made a huge comeback this season has shown that he makes the kind of music that does not let down easily.
It has truly been a year of massive music releases from singles to highly anticipated full-length projects. While we wait for more new music from some of the biggest names in the SA music industry, it would be nice to run through 15 of the biggest songs to have hit the airwaves this year. It isn’t just about sales, streams, and chart numbers, you can not deny the fact that these songs deserve a spot on the list because they are undeniable masterpieces.
