Emmerson Mnangagwa Biography

Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, known simply as Emmerson Mnangagwa, is a Zimbabwean politician, former ZANU-PF combatant and former minister with different portfolios who now serves as president of the impoverished southern African country.

From a life of activism and combat, in the early days of ZANU-PF and when Zimbabwe was still known as Rhodesia, Emmerson Mnangagwa had stood out as an important voice in the country’s evolution, snagging different political roles which culminated in his emergence as president.

He has just won a second term in an election that opposition figures claim was marred by irregularities and therefore want it cancelled. S far as he is concerned, though, he has won the election, and no effort should be made to interfere with the results already announced and possibly push him out of the presidency.

Mr Mnangagwa was pretty close to Mugabe and served him in various positions. When Mugabe died, he continued a part of the ZANU-PF family, ultimately working his way to his current role – that of the president of Zimbabwe.

Age

Emmerson Mnangagwa is easily one of the oldest presidents in Africa, having been born in 1943. At the moment, that means he is 80 years old. He will be 81 in a couple of months.

Net Worth

As a public figure and president of one of the poorest countries in the world, Emmerson Mnangagwa would rarely be found talking about his net worth, for that only brings negative publicity to his person, as well as illuminates the allegations of massive corruption against him.

Anyway, his silence has not stopped the public from doing the talking. He reportedly has a net worth of $10 million. The figure cannot be confirmed, however. Some sources have higher figures and some have lower.

House

Mr Mnangagwa lives at his official residence, which is home to every elected president of the country. However, he is also said to own a multi-million-dollar mansion on Crowhill and Wheeldon Roads in Harare. The said house has been a subject of controversy for years, with his critics describing it as unsightly for the price.

Cars

As the current president of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa is entitled to an entourage. He has a fleet of official cars that accompanies him everywhere. One cannot point to his personal cars at this point. That should be public knowledge when he leaves office.

Children

Emmerson Mnangagwa is a father to nine children. His first wife had six children for him before her death in 2002. These six children are Farai, Tasiyiwa, Tariro, Vimbai, Tapiwa, and Emmerson Jnr Tanaka. His second wife, Auxillia, is a mother to three kids, namely Emmerson (Jnr), Sean and Collins.

However, multiple reports claim that these are actually not all the children he has. Back in 2018, a United Kingdom publication had claimed that the former ZANU-PF combatant is a father to 18 children.

Wife

For most couples, the dream is to not only get married but live in bliss until death intrudes at a very old age. But life does not always give an answer to the denizens of the earth. And it certainly didn’t favour Jayne Matarise in this regard

She was the first wife of the current Zimbabwean president. She got married to Emmerson Mnangagwa in 1973 and they remained married until her death in 2002 after a protracted battle with cervical cancer.

Mr Mnangagwa is currently married to Auxillia Mnangagwa (née Kutyauripo), a Zimbabwean politician.
